A New Year’s Toast

I write short takes on life. Life happens and I feel compelled to write it down. But sometimes when I sit down to write, I’m at a loss for words. That’s when I pull up my old ramblings for inspiration. Looking back over last year’s blog subjects, I found I had made a New Year’s Toast “to warm floors.”

For most people, I suppose a toast to warm floors is pretty lame because it’s something we all take for granted. This year I looked on the Internet for something better. I found this nifty quote from T.S. Elliot. He was writing it as an author and it particularly applies to writers.

But the more I thought about it, the more I thought this applies to everyone. We have all said or written words that we regret or words that were inadequate. And so I offer Elliot’s toast to you:

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language.

And next year’s words await another voice.

And to make an end is to make a beginning.

  1. I think every moment is a story so disagree on lame. Elliott, I like…very deep.
